      I figured out that it will only take grease after I run the machine for at least 20min kinda weird but I guess it warms up the grease joint and frees it up. Not normal but was an easy fix

      I used a pressure washer to remove the bark then use 100grit sand paper on a orbital sander to get it ready to stain. I used and recommend Sikkins (Cetal) re1 and 23 as the stain. It is a 3 coat process and comes in 2 separate gallons the first coat is the RE1 gallon and the second and third is the RE23 gallon. I used Mahogany but butternut color is also really nice and popular on the big island. It is pricey stuff but it is the best and will last the longest. Use a staining pad to apply and wipe off excess with the same pad so not to hide the wood grain. Good luck

    I want to clear the site, dig the footings, and do the associated drainage works myself. Everyone keeps telling me I am nuts and that using an excavator to do this, having never used one before is nuts. Would you agree, or do you think that if I hire one and spend a day getting used to it, I should be good to do the excavation works myself?

    • @WesD808
      @WesD808 5 месяцев назад

      It all depends how well you are able to learn new things, if you are handy and a do it yourselfer than I would say go for it, after a day or so you should be ok to do what you need to but just take it slow and learn the controls. I taught myself awhile back on a small mini ex and was pretty good after a couple days. Just respect the machine and understand that it can damage anything you hit very easily, they are very heavy and unforgiving, good luck and hope it all works out for you.

    G'day mate, greetings from Australia. I found this video because I just bought my first excavator, 2019 8.5 tonne Takeuchi. Until now, I had never even sat in an excavotor, let alone operated one before (I am 60 years old). Really appreciated your video. I am in a high rainfall, very hilly, sub tropical on the east coast of Australia, where I a farm, I am finding it takes a little bit of getting used to operating it and I really appreciated your video. I am going to search your back catalogue for some other excavator related videos. I just wanted to say thank, you have a really natural nice form of delivery that makes it easy to listened to.

    I would definitely go bigger if you have the option. Having a large excavator makes jobs so much easier and being able to get them done much faster. Additionally your not working the machine as hard as you would with a smaller one, saving on repairs and other upkeep.

    • @WesD808
      @WesD808 10 месяцев назад

      Tottaly agree with you on going bigger, unfortunitly for me this is the biggest machine I own , I couldnt afford anything bigger and the other problem here in Hawaii is this machine is the biggest machine I can move on the roads without a special permit from the county and having to get a police escort, so that was what made me get this Cat 314, If you watch some of my other videos you will be suprised on what this excavator is capable of, I am suprised on every job I do. Thanks for watching I appreciate the support on my channel.

    • @WesD808
      @WesD808 11 месяцев назад

      It smokes white where the rock is really hard, it creates rock dust when I am trying to break it, that's how I know I hit what's called a blue rock vein, its extreamly hard veins in the rock usually running in the direction of the lava flow, its where the lava was really dense and compressed with high pressures, all the lava has cooled long ago, thanks for watching.
